Social Institutions
INTRODUCTION

A social institution is defined as "a cluster of social structures that collectively meet one or more of the basic needs of a society."  The institutions we will discuss include Family, Education, Politics, Economics, Religion, and Sport.  While each institution fulfills different functions, meets different needs and organizes itself differently, they are interdependent.  We won't have time to cover all of them; we will decide collectively which we cover.

Here are the introductory notes and powerpoint presentations (PDF or PPT) to get us started.
